Turn a One-Minute Walkaround into a 3d Model
In four steps, you can make a video of a tree that we can turn into a 3d model
Step 1: Plan Your Path

You need to make a video of the tree while walking in a circle around it at a moderate, even pace (usually 1-2 minutes).

It is best to walk all the way around the tree while taking the video, but you can do as little as half a circle in most cases.

A small number of obstacles between you and the tree are ok, as long as there is a clear view of the tree at all times.
Step 2: Avoid the Sun

We can’t process videos with direct sun, glare, or large changes in light.

Make sure you pick a time of day to make your video when the sun will be at your back.

If you need, try getting your video during an overcast day or between sunrise/sunset and darkness.
Step 3: Set Zoom and Frame

Open your camera.

Make sure it’s set to take videos.

Set your zoom to .5 (iphone) or .6 (android), if you have the option.

Step back until you have the full height and most of the tree in frame.
Step 4: Place Scale Marker

You can scale your model using a piece of standard (8.5”x11”) printing paper.

Place the paper vertically on the trunk and secure it with push pins or tape the sides, leaving the top and bottom clear.

Make sure your back is to the sun when placing it.

The marker should be clearly visible for as long as possible during your video.
